Founded in Spring 2023, Machine Learning Research at Penn (MLR@Penn) is an undergraduate student organization designed for students to cultivate their passion for machine learning and artificial intelligence research. We facilitate conversations about recent works in topics of interest through reading groups, and through our research group, we open avenues for students to collaborate and engage in developing novel research, with an opportunity to publish those works. With over 250 members and constantly growing, we hope to create a lasting community of budding undergraduate researchers at Penn, while simultaneously fostering mentorship and learning from experienced researchers through speaker events and collaborations, both in industry and academia.

MLR@Penn consists of reading groups, an in-house research group, and a business development committee. The MLR@Penn Slack is open to all undergraduate students interested in joining, and is the primary mode of communication for the reading groups and various learning resources for those beginning their journey in ML. The research group and business development committee require an application.

• We host reading groups on large language models / foundation models, reinforcement learning, computer vision, machine learning theory, trustworthy ML, and AI applications.
• Our research group is designed to enable students to ideate, develop, and publish novel findings at top-tier machine learning venues (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.).
• Finally, our business development committee helps with sourcing speakers for our researcher speaker series, marketing and outreach to the Penn community and other student groups, and external outreach for corporate sponsorship and potential collaborations with open-source organizations.
